A picturesque pocket of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Coolum Beach is the envy of urban escapists.
Coolum Beach is a little slice of paradise on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, easy-going and packed full of year-round summery vibes. Taking the top prize for its surf break, this beachside suburb is a popular holiday destination with a laid-back village.
Patrolled year-round, surfers are out vying for the perfect wave from the break of dawn. The beach is also ideal for swimming and has a dog-friendly area at the north end. The boardwalk that hugs the foreshore offers uninterrupted ocean views, and the large beachside park has a playground and picnic facilities with ample space to stretch out.
To spot whales during their annual migration (June to November), head to Point Perry Lookout for the best views in the house. While away from the water, Mount Coolum National Park is a natural wonderland with a steep hiking trail that leads to spectacular 360-degree views of the hinterland and coastline.
Then there is the village with a wonderful selection of storefronts and boutiques that sit alongside on-trend cafes and restaurants. When wanting to mix things up a little, head 15 minutes north to Noosa for a boarder selection of fine dining and high-end boutiques.
Getting to and from Coolum Beach is easy-breezy, with direct flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Auckland from the nearby Sunshine Coast Airport.
